Holdbacks are not just for holding back curtains anymore! Curtain holdbacks are traditionally placed to the right and left of the window to hold back curtains or drapes so that you can let the light in. Windows now come in every shape and size and sometimes, it becomes very difficult to find a way to hang curtains around them. While this method would work for any window, extra large windows, bay windows, odd shaped windows and arched windows are some of the toughest to figure out.
Holdbacks are easy to install and can create a decorative look. The best holdbacks to use are stem holdbacks that install to the wall, usually with a plate, and have a stem coming out from the wall. Then there is a decorative piece on the front. You can use any type of curtain by putting rings onto the holdbacks and then attaching the curtains to the rings by sewing them on or by using pincer clips. If you don’t want to use rings, you can use curtains with tabs or ties and put them directly on the holdbacks. Of course, using holdbacks this way doesn’t allow for the curtains to move across the window. So you might want to have holdbacks used the traditional way to hold the curtain back from the window.
Holdbacks come in a variety of styles, sizes and finishes, so they can be used with most decors. And you can use several of them for more curtains or larger windows or spaces or you can use just a few to single or smaller windows.
